About me

Writing has become a passion for me. When absorbed in crafting a blog post, a newsletter article, or even a carefully worded email, I have experienced flow. As wikipedia puts it: “a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity.”

I can get that same absorption with dancing.

Many things in my life have shaped me: my family of course, being born in England but then moving to Edinburgh, being a Quaker, studying a science PhD but then landing a job in PR, friendships. becoming a mother, cancer…

My cancer experience is probably what caused the shift in my writing – not only writing for my employer or others, but writing about my own experiences in the form of a blog hosted but the Macmillan Cancer Support on-line forum.

Update 2024

Through the girls' teenage years, it has not felt right to dwell much on some of the challenges of family life. What I might say to someone over coffee is different to what I might say on-line for everyone to read. I will attempt to be genuine in what I publish here, but I don't want to expose any of my loved ones to anything they are not comfortable with.
